New SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey Takes the Moral High Ground Regarding Gambling

New SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey makes the decision to cut ties with DraftKings and FanDuel. According to Cynopsis Media, Sankey told WVTM-TV that the daily fantasy companies’ ads will not be allowed to air on the SEC Network. “Is it a form of gambling, is it a form of skill game, and I think there is some question about that,” SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said. “And I think the appropriate place for us to land as a conference on the SEC Network, again working with ESPN, is not to include that advertising on the SEC Network moving forward.”

This move isn’t surprising given Sankey’s background in compliance. Sankey has served as chairman of the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions and was brought in by former Commissioner Mike Slive to help clean up the SEC many years ago. According to Jon Solomon with,”for his 50th birthday… Sankey asked friends to donate money to help build a clean-water well for impoverished people in India.”
